Elite S2001

Elite S2001 Calculator

The Elite S2001 calculator was manufactured in Germany in 1976. It features a chunky two-piece plastic case, with a light grey bottom and a matt black top, giving it a sturdy feel. The green display filter is flush with the case, providing a clean and bright image. The keyboard surround is made of brushed aluminum, adding a touch of elegance to its design. The top of the calculator is slightly tilted upwards, including the back, which can cause it to rock, especially when there are no batteries to weigh it down.

Elite S2001 Side

The Elite S2001 is powered by 6.0V DC, using 4 x AA size batteries. It also accepts an adapter/charger through a top side socket on the right. The on/off switch is located on the top side, in the middle, and is a three-position on/off/charge switch. A note on the back, written in German, warns users not to switch to charge with standard batteries in place.

Elite S2001 Display

The calculator features an 8-digit green VFD display, with a ninth digit used for minus and error indication. It offers basic four-function capabilities, along with percentages, square root, pi, and change sign functions. The keys are short travel with a soft click, providing a decent user experience.

The Elite S2001 comes with a black plastic case that has a top cover fastening with a popper on the front. The Elite logo is embossed on the front, and the case looks identical to the Decimo Vatman.

 Manual

Logic:

  • The Clear Entry key (CE) is used to clear an input number; the clear (C) key is used to completely reset the calculator.
  • Input overflow is not suppressed: keying in a ninth digit causes an overflow which is recoverable using (CE).
  • There is automatic constant on all four functions.
  • The negative sign is shown in the immediate left-hand digit traveling into the far left (ninth digit) thereby allowing full eight-digit negative numbers.
  • An overflow is shown with the result and a ā€œCā€ (ā€œEā€ if negative) in the far left (ninth) digit and is not recoverable.
  • A divide by zero shows zero and “E” in the far left (ninth) digit and is not recoverable.
  • The change sign function can be used in mid-number entry but not before.
  • Negative square roots are allowed and result in a negative number.
  • No other bugs found.
Elite S2001 Battery

The Elite S2001 calculator has a quality feel in the hand. The logic is decent, though it is let down by the lack of recovery and negative square roots. The imbalance on the desk is a minor drawback. The original black plastic case has a top cover that fastens with a popper on the front and features the Elite logo embossed on the front. It bears a striking resemblance to the Decimo Vatman.
